The connection between effective leadership and sleep

A large percentage of leaders are not getting enough sleep, which could have a negative impact on behaviors associated with strong leadership, according to a recent Harvard Business Review article. Of those surveyed, 43% said they did not get enough sleep four nights a week.
 
The prefrontal cortex of the brain, which directs cognitive processes such as organizing, planning and executing plans, problem solving, and reasoning, doesn’t cope well with too little sleep. As a result of too little sleep, the following four functions of leadership suffer:
•    Operating with a strong orientation to results
•    Seeking out different perspectives
•    Solving problems effectively
•    Supporting others
