Improve patient safety

With Medicare reimbursements becoming increasingly linked to patient safety issues, healthcare leaders are striving to create a culture of safety at their hospitals. Hospital & Health Networks recently provided an overview of the areas hospitals need to focus on to improve patient care. The following are the top four priorities:
•    Avoid patient falls by using electronic patient lifts and bed exit alarms
•    Design for safety, such as making equipment portable to reduce patient transport, decentralizing nurse stations, and properly lighting medication rooms
•    Focus on infection control by utilizing new technology and encouraging hand-hygiene compliance
•    Stay educated about new laws and regulations.
